Mortal Kombat 2 Movie as Karl Urban's Johnny Cage, Adeline Rudolph Says

Next year's Mortal Kombat 2 movie will see Kitana play just as big a role as Karl Urban's Johnny Cage, according to actress Adeline Rudolph. The delayed sequel, now due out next summer, sees Rudolph play the fan-favorite Princess of Edenia. In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, Rudolph said the character's storyline is interwoven into Johnny Cage's. "Especially when I first read the script, it felt very much like the intertwining of two worlds. You have Earthrealm and then you have Edenia and Outworld," she continued. "Kitana's storyline feels very much interwoven into Johnny Cage's story, and they go in and out of each other throughout the movie." In the Mortal Kombat video games, Kitana is the princess of Edenia, the daughter of Queen Sindel, and a love interest for Liu Kang. She’s also one of the most important figures in the fight to stop Outworld from conquering all of reality. We don’t get the impression any of that will change for Mortal Kombat 2, though with a cast this large, it might be hard to squeeze a romance between Kitana and Liu into proceedings. Kitana was originally played by Talisa Soto in the cult classic 1995 movie, while Samantha Jo played Kitana on both seasons of Mortal Kombat: Legacy. New Line Cinema describes the sequel as "the latest high-stakes installment in the blockbuster video game franchise in all its brutal glory. This time, the fan favorite champions — now joined by Johnny Cage himself (Karl Urban) — are pitted against one another in the ultimate, no-holds barred, gory battle to defeat the dark rule of Shao Kahn that threatens the very existence of the Earthrealm and its defenders."
